Ming Ming - hit & run

One of our strays was an unfortunate victim of hit & run 2 nights ago.

Ming Ming was born on a construction site. As with most strays, hers is an unpredictable life. Of irregular meals, of facing the elements of weather, of being abused at times by angry workers, of accidents, and the dreaded fear of being dumped behind at the construction site once work is completed.

Fortunately for her, a young couple gave her the hope of a safe, happy permanent home few months back. And Ming Ming blossomed into a very good-natured, intelligent, and lovable friend.

2 nights ago, Ming Ming's owner was walking her when a cat jumped into her path. She always has a fear of cats, and when that happened, she broke loose and ran into uncoming traffic. A car was driving by fast and rammed right into her, sending her tumbling off a distance.

With utter shock, her owner watched as Ming Ming got up and dashed away in the opposite direction! She must have been very fearful cos she ran away fast although she was already limping and soon disappeared from her owner's sight. Despite going about calling for her, Ming Ming was not found that night. Her owner went back home totally distraught, thinking the worst had happened, that Ming Ming could have passed on somewhere alone out there.

Imagine the surprise, when next morning came, and Ming Ming was right at her own doorsteps! She had made her way home - her entire face and neck was bloody from a deep gash on her muzzle - a big chunk of flesh is almost torn off, and she was limping on 3 legs.

The owner called me, distraught and at a loss of what to do - he openly told me that he wanted to immediately rush Ming Ming to the vet, however, at his present state, he would not be able to afford any medical fees, and looking at Ming Ming's condition, an operation is needed.

In situations like this, finances should be the last concern. So we rushed Ming Ming immediately to the vet:
- she had an x-ray done, which shows that her right hind leg was broken, with splintered bones lodged within
- the cut on her muzzle was deep & gaping & still bleeding non-stop
- her liver was hurt by the strong impact of the fast moving car and a blood test shows she cannot be operated on, as her condition is not stable and she may not survive the op.

We have to wait a few days for her blood test to be normal. Ming Ming was brought back to recuperate with her medication: antibiotics, painkillers, medication to stabilise her liver, supplements for her bones and to aid healing. Her condition is still critical, esp the impact to her liver, and how she responds in the next few days will determine if she survives.

All throughout the procedures, there was not a sound of complaint from her. Even when pain shot through her hind leg when it is handled for examination, she just whinced, looked at you with steady eyes and bore it all in stride. And when she was back home, after we applied the antibiotic powder on her muzzle, she struggled to sit up and came right close to me, to tenderly place her face against my thighs. A heartwarming moment with this amazing gal.

* Ming Ming will be going for her blood test tomorrow. If the results are acceptable, she can be operated to remove the smashed bone splinters in her hind leg. Her medication and x-ray had already cost $400+. More expenses will be incurred with the tests and operation and follow-up procedures.

We thus sincerely ask for your support to help Ming Ming return to her healthy state which will probably take a few months of recuperation. Kindly share her story with people who understand and care enough to open their heart to fulfil a need. Any amount of donation will be so very much appreciated. Please contact projectjkteam@yahoo.com.sg if you would like to help.

Thank you so much,
on behalf of Ming Ming and her owner
