The lessons of life

you learn in the course of helping the strays!

Lucky taught us about letting go. Of sweetness in a short, good life over a long, miserable one. Of understanding that our power to end suffering is actually a good power when used with love. And we should not be ashamed of that.

Shadow taught us about pursuing after freedom. Of not giving up. Of having faith that one day, her so desired freedom will come. And it did.

Bicycle taught us of a loyalty seldom seen in humans. Of a loyalty to his owner who has left him on the streets yet he continues his duty with no reproach to the one who had betrayed him.

Coca, Cola, Puppy Boy and Guppy showed us the full exuberance of life! The utter joy and abandonment that makes them leap into the air and bound along the streets so happily, you just have to smile a big smile at them. They are so FULL OF LIFE! What are so many of us desk-bound, anaemic humans compared to them? Have we ever even tasted LIFE? The true abundantly joyful life!

Ebony taught us that beyond what people may say, I believe dogs do love. And they do feel love. Ebony has chosen to walk out from her hiding place, to settle her weak and dying body right next to her family, before she dies. Why did she disappear for that night? And why did she make her way back to her pups? Was it her love and longing to be near them in her last breath?

Call me sentimental. But that is what I choose to believe.

Dogs live and love.
