Putting an animal to sleep

This phrase encompasses a whole gamut of meaning and emotions way beyond the innocent comprehension of the man on the streets. Let me just say there is an entire continuum of means of putting an animal to sleep. Killing them, in plain language.

I understand the need of putting some animals to sleep. I see the objective of that in our current situation and availability of resources. Putting them down is at times the more humane choice.

The contention only lies in HOW an animal is being put down.

What we can do, while the people still holds authority to end the lives of animals, is to lessen the chances of more puppies being born, who will add onto the eventual number of strays being culled.

We need to:
- step up on our efforts to sterilise as many of our strays as possible.
- relocate as many of them to a safer place.
- continue to find good homes for puppies inevitably being born.

For this, we need supporters/sponsors for our sterilisation costs, relocation costs and costs of upkeeping the animals at a safer place. We also need contacts of good, genuine families for our adoptable pups and dogs.

But homes are limited. Good homes are even fewer. And on certain days, we are left with the painful route of putting the pups to sleep. We almost did that for a litter of 5 a month back. But just being with them and holding them in my arms for that short period, I couldn't do it. We decided to give them a fighting chance at life. We're glad we did. Now 4 of them are well rehomed. 1 is left with her mom. (Will share on their story later)

But just how many more pups can we rehome? Not just a number game, but really rehoming them to good homes.

Until we learn to brandish our power for the good of a fellow living being. Until we arrive at a reconciliation of hearts that all who has life should live. Until we welcome life in all its myriad forms and learn to treat LIFE with RESPECT. In its living days and how it should die. Until then, we seek your continued support as we go on with our Sterilisation Programme.

* It costs more than S$100 for each dog we sterilise/microchip/vaccinate. More if that dog requires special medical treatment. Sterilisation is the KEY to reduce the number of puppies being born into a world that doesn't welcome them. To help sponsor our sterilisation expenses, please email us at projectjkteam@yahoo.com.sg THANK YOU so much.
