At first glance,

Bicycle on the streets then at Mutts & Mittens for a period. He was then moved to the safe haven of Noah's Ark in Oct 05. He and his girlfriend, Chanel, have made a little corner shed their home. He remembered us when we visited, wagging his little knob of a tail in welcome.

* Bicycle is looking for a SPONSOR to support his stay at Noah's Ark. If you feel for Bicycle and would like to sponsor him at $35/month, please email us at projectjkteam@yahoo.com.sg for more details. Thank you.

he looks just like any other stray wandering the streets . His coat lightly covered with traffic dust and remains of the weather, I guessed he hardly dared wish for a pat or hug or kind words from a human figure.

Apparently, his owner could no longer keep him for reasons unclear, and he was dumped on the streets. This man bikes to that area every morning, locks his bicycle along that stretch and comes back at night to retrieve the bicycle (but not the dog) home.

Our dear friend had loyally guarded the bicycle every single day. Those who dared go near, he never hesitated to growl and even snap. Thus, the name Bicycle. Loyal defender of a heartless owner's machine.

He lived off the streets for a year or so and the only kindness he experienced each day was from V. At the sound of her car horn, he would come out from among the bushes or down by the road.

This big boy acts like a toughie and has a peculiar habit of running and complaining loudly after people on bikes. More than a few times, he was beaten up. But when it rains, big boy loses all cool! Thunder freaks him out and will get him running for miles.

Once while we were driving off, thunders broke out. He totally freaked out and dashed madly after us, down the streets among the few cars plying the road. It was a heart-rending sight and V decided he must be taken to the kennels soon for his safety.

Unfortunately, before we could make preparations to move him, Bicycle was caught by the AVA. So on top of the kennel fees, we had to pay AVA to bail him back from certain death.

At the kennels, we discovered he's a natural climber. He climbed over the open kennel a couple of times and went to rest under a shady tree or on the grass. He didn't like the concrete and metal bars much. His reputation grew and soon almost everyone knows Bicycle.

I do not understand people who dumped their home pets along the streets and expect them to survive. Home pets have been accustomed to people and having their needs provided. Not all of them will be wily enough to integrate with the other strays and stay away from danger on the streets.

Bicycle, for one, was never welcomed by the neighbouring strays. They totally ostracised him and on ocassions, fought him.

Now safe at Noah's Ark, he no longer has to guard himself against anyone anymore. He's free to be just him - good 'ol Bicycle.
